1794 Adegas do Torreão Malvasia Madeira Vintage
Adegas do Torreão was a small producer that operated from the late 18th century to the early 20th century. Unlike most Madeira producers, Adegas do Torreão did not own any vineyards, but bought grapes and wines from local farmers. They then aged and blended them in their cellars, ensuring quality and consistency. Adegas do Torreão sold most of their wines to larger Madeira houses, who used them in their own blends. However, on rare occasions, Adegas do Torreão bottled some of their wines under their own label, creating limited and exclusive editions.
The 1794 Adegas do Torreão Malvasia is one of these rare bottlings. It is a wine that has survived for more than two centuries, witnessing wars, revolutions and changes in the world. It is a wine that has matured and developed in the bottle, gaining layers of complexity and nuance. It is a wine that offers a glimpse into the history and tradition of Madeira wine making.
Tasting note: The 1794 Adegas do Torreão Malvasia has a deep amber color with greenish hues. The nose is intense and complex, with notes of dried figs, dates, raisins, walnuts, almonds, caramel, honey, molasses, coffee, tobacco, leather and wood. The palate is full-bodied and luscious, with a balanced acidity and a long finish. The flavors echo the nose, adding hints of orange peel, chocolate, vanilla and spices. The wine is smooth and elegant, with a remarkable harmony and depth.
